This big old Maple was about half dead, lost a major branch that just missed the garage and had others that hung over the corner of the garage and the house. Much as I hated to, it had to come down.

Tree guy showed up with a really nifty self-propelled boom lift and a crew and they had it on the ground in 3 hours. Part of the deal was he'd chip anything under 4 inches, cut the big chunks into manageable length and I'd deal with the rest.

An acquaintance of mine offered to give me a little something for the wood. He ain't go two nickels to rub together most of the time, makes a little money selling firewood and doing odd jobs. He's all stove to hell, I don't know how he walks most days, but he works for every dime he gets.

I told him we could load it on my big trailer, I'd park it at his place and he could unload at his leisure and call me when the trailer was empty. 8x16 trailer stacked about 2 feet deep, figure 1-1/2 cords minimum allowing for sloppy stacking. There's most of another load of BIG stuff that we'll have to cut to stove length to move. Even then, some of the pieces will need to be picked up with the tractor to get them on the trailer.

I started at 8:00 or so, cloudy/foggy and cool, if a little humid. By the time we got all the stuff that we could handle on the trailer the Sun had come out and the humidity was off the charts.

I believe I'll skip that trip to the gym today...
