This evening, I will take my 5 surviving birds to my daughter. Tired of maintaining a Predator Smorgasbord. She has a covered run and dogs, never lost a bird.
Since we had to give up dogs (wife's allergies) I've lost them to foxes, weasels, bobcats, hawks, owls and eagles. Plus the cost of feed is just stupid.
She'll get all my leftover feed, containers and bedding, we get a dozen eggs here and there as needed.
Out of the chicken business
Re: Out of the chicken business
I’m sorry to hear this, Paul, but I understand. My wife nearly said this a couple of weeks ago, and I suspect we won’t be replacing the few that we have now.

That's where we were, but after losing another one to an eagle last week, we talked our daughter into taking them. Her tiny coop will be a little crowded, but I'll help her up-size her operation later. She'll also get getting all my chain-link to enlarge her pen.Bkeepr wrote: Sat Aug 10, 2024 8:29 am I’m sorry to hear this, Paul, but I understand. Sorry to hear that, fawteen, I imagine it gets frustrating to lose them like that.
Re: Out of the chicken business
We put a good chicken wire top on ours. We have owls and hawks out the butt here. I think our having dogs is keeping the other varmints ats bay. We got back into the chicken business a few months ago. ( 6 chickens) We are big time operators !!!!
