Tomorrow a visit to the VA prosthetics department. I will be taking a drivers education class. In preparation for my electric wheelchair.
I'm still trying to adjust to the new hearing aids. The ones that are behind the ear and rechargeable. I like the rechargeable feature, but the wax guards seem to need replacing frequently. I do clean my ears often and have done that most of it life. The audiology department has told me my ears are quite clean every time they look in. That's why I can't figure out why the wax gardens need to be changed so often. They also gave back my older hearing aids, after they were supposedly fixed. In the past those old style hearing aids were a very big pain in the ass because they wouldn't last longer than it took me to get back home. I did take a test drive of that chair the last time I was in that department.
It was then that Maria confessed pushing me around was getting difficult.
Philippine Airlines will allow me to take my wheelchair home at no additional expense. They allow medical equipment or devices to travel for free.
Our flight between Seattle and Manila will start just before midnight on September 1, arriving in Manila two days later, but the entire flight is in the dark. I'm really looking forward to getting back home. Being cooped up in this little teeny tiny rented apartment is wearing thin on both of us.
The sun's coming up here in Seattle. So it must be time to bring an end to this post.

Re: Upcoming events
Jim, what sort of hearing aids did you get? My Phonaks have been a HUGE blessing. I generate what I suspect is more than average ear wax and like you clean my ears daily. Even so, I only change wax guards once, or at most twice, a month.
I do clean the wax off the earpieces every other day or so.

The VA give me the same brand as you got and I'm experience the wax guard thing at about the same rate. The old style I thought the batteries were too small for my shaky fingers and my piss poor eyesight. The wax guards are even smaller, and I cannot see well enough to make changing them a breeze.
I think maybe I'm asking too much from the VA when they accept the lowest bidder and get the lowest devices they can get.

I also use the Phoneak brand. Mine are linked to an App on my phone. There is a setting in there that changes the time interval of how often you get notifications that the was filter need changing. I purchased, what I thought was a years supply of the wax filters, and I still have 3/4 of them left. And that was over a year ago. I dont change mine but every 3-4 months, sometimes longer.
Safe travels.
