Did they have to crush the 'vette? Philippine cars that were smuggled into the country
without paying taxes.
I wonder how come they just didn't get auctioned off, surely the government could use the money.[image]

The rest of the story. It's not just taxes. These cars are stolen smuggled to USSR where they are switched driving sides (if needed) and new papers are made so they appear as legal cars before they are smuggled into the PI and other country. Of corse customs get their share. In 2010 I was offered a late model Mercedes-Benz at a very very low price and was told of their origin and how they could be sold for such a low price. I turned him down and buy a new 2010 KIA from the Dumaguete dealer. I did not think we needed a Mercedes that bad.:-)

With all that said, why can't the government STILL do something useful with them after they are confiscated? I know scrapping them is still a win for the feds dollar wise, but selling them legally would surely gain more revenue yet. I guess I could never work for the government, as soon as I would take part in such I would be a smoldering pile that still had a wth look on it.

That is the quickest way to destroy any connection to all the government's involvement in the theft and smuggling ring. Have to remember that no matter which country one lives in the government is always the GOOD guys.:-( This is a third world country where every one here excepts the fact that corruption is just the way it is.
