It is unfortunate, but he made a choice to live outside the United States.


There are many other instances where medical insurance doesn't cover international travel.

If you are covered by Medicare and travel outside the US, you may not be covered either.

"For the most part, Original Medicare, Part A and Part B, doesn’t cover medical services or items you get outside the country. Medicare considers the United States to include the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, American Samoa, and the U.S. Virgin Islands."

Some Medicare supplemental policies cover care outside the US, but not basic Medicare.

My own Medical Insurance, that I have been paying for myself for nearly 44 years, has very limited coverage outside the US.
