We may be selling the farm

I kinda hinted at this in a previous post. We have been back on the farm close to 10 years. Things change in 10 years. Tammy fought off the cancer, but has some lingering problems with that. ( two feet of intestines missing). I have added the Ulcerative Colitis to my list of maladies. And believe it or not, I rarely go out hunting anymore. It is almost a chore to get out an go, then ya gotta clean the danged things, etc.

So, I have been selling off trucks and machinery that I will never use. Selling some other odds and ends of FB Marketplace.

We have been to an estate planning atty, and have all that pretty well resolved. Fixed some deeds, did all the Power of attys, Etc. and the Health directives.

We have had one real estate guy out that specializes in hunting property. Then I have sold off two lots that join up with my old house, and my dads old house. So the one guy we sold 3 acres to, and the other 1.5 acres. That will give them a little more space. One guy wants to build a shop. And the other wants to build lots so his kids can do some 4-H calves. He got my old barn,, silo, and farrowing house.

So I am left with about 100-105 acres, a dandy hunting cabin, There is lots of timber, a 14 acre field of Native grass, and 7 acres of Black Walnut trees in rows that I planted 30 years ago, 1/2 mile of creek frontage and a wonderful branch, plus our dream house, and my dream shop. It would be a hunters paradise. Gonna be damned hard to leave it, but I guess it was bound to happen. I just turned 70, take 14 prescriptions, 44 pills a day. I have gone 33 years on a kidney transplant. Maybe not a record, but getting close to it. I just cant keep up with things anymore.

The plans are to move to Waynesville, Mo. ( Fort Leonard Wood) area. That is where Tammy's daughter is, and the one most like to take care of us.

I am in the place where I have no clue as to how we are gonna pull this move off. I still have lots of "STUFF" But I guess just one day at a time.

I will keep everyone informed as we go. I am guessing it will be a good years project. Aint gonna happen overnight.

Take care all !

Damn, that's got to be hard, but it sounds like a smart move. Best of luck!

We have had this place since 1937 I think. The other farm was mostly row crop, and I lost interest in row crop and parted with my half of that about 10 years ago. That had been in the family since 1906.

But this place is where I was raised, and it means a lot more to me. It sucks really.

Gene,

I'm sorry to be reading all this. I can't say it better than what Paul said: sounds like you're doing the smart thing, and I wish you the best of luck.
