Too Much Fun - Wooden Model of a Thompson Submachine Gun

This thing just tickles the shit out of me. For one thing, the design, engineering and production quality is amazing. All laser cut out of plywood sheets, all mortise-and-tenon assembly other than a few screws here and there, and fully functional.
There are little wooden dowels you can load in the drum magazine to simulate cartridges which
actually eject when you pull the trigger.
You can load up to 12 of the supplied rubber bands and it goes full auto when you pull the trigger, firing the rubber bands sequentially and ejecting a "cartridge" with each cycle of the bolt.
Excellent instructions, I really enjoyed assembling it, and giggle like a 10 year old girl at a pajama party when I fire it.

Had the real thing made by Auto Ordnance. Never went out shooting it with less than 300 rounds. I didn't have the drum magazine but had two each 20 and 30 rounders. Had one 20 and one 30 taped together. It wouldn't chamber anything but the round noses.
Happiness is a warm Thomson.

That would get expensive quick at today's ammo prices. Fun tho!

That was back in 1978. Shortly after I got it I relized that I could not keep up with the cost of store bought 45s and began reloading. Soon after that I went to casting my own bullets. At about the same time I learned that round nose bullets were the only bullet that would chamber in the Tommy.

What did the barrel think of those cast lead bullets?
I know my mid-range Kimber came with a warning to use jacketed bullets only.

Neat toy, I might have to hint for one for Christmas.
Your question about cast got me thinking. Here’s a thread by some gun enthusiasts, some of whom have done it, and say “no problem.”

PAUL,
While I was researching casting my own. I came across a formula for the mixture between battery and wheel lead. Never had a problem.
